Brandon received his first PC, an IBM Aptiva 310, in 1994 and hasn’t looked back since. He cut his teeth on computer building/repair working at a mom and pop computer shop as a plucky teen in the mid 90s and went on to join AnandTech as the Senior News Editor in 1999. Brandon would later help to form DailyTech where he served as Editor-in-Chief from 2008 until 2014. Brandon is a tech geek at heart, and family members always know where to turn when they need free tech support. When he isn’t writing about the tech hardware or studying up on the latest in mobile gadgets, you’ll find him browsing forums that cater to his long-running passion: automobiles.

We’ve been hearing rumors of Google’s intention to step into the wireless carrier market as a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO). Google’s Nick Fox is helming the project, which is codenamed Nova. None other than Sundar Pichai, Google’s SVP of Android, Chrome, and Google Apps, has now confirmed what was... Read more...
When it comes to fingerprint technology used in today’s smartphones, many look to Apple’s Touch ID as the standard-bearer. Touch ID was introduced with the iPhone 5s and was improved upon with the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, and iPad Air 2. Touch ID provides 360-degree readability, doesn’t require you to swipe your... When it comes to the mobile market, Intel is coming on strong as of late, and we’re not just talking about with notebooks. Intel’s Atom processors, while not as potent as their Celeron and Core counterparts, allowed mainstream tablets to run a full-featured version of Windows while still offering respectable... As we’ve reported numerous times, Microsoft just can’t get over budget smartphones. While we understand the need for Microsoft to embrace the entry-level market, it seems like this is the only market that the company is interested in these days. Over 70 percent of Windows Phones out in the wild have just 512MB of... Read more...
Huawei shocked is all when two videos of its “Huawei Watch” made their way onto YouTube. Combining the naturally good looks of the Motorola Moto 360 with the completely circular display of the LG Watch Urbane makes for a beautiful smartwatch. Throw in the scratch resistant cold-forged stainless steel housing that is... Read more...
If the transition from the Galaxy S4 to Galaxy S5 was disappointing to customers and detrimental to Samsung’s smartphone sales/earnings, we have to wonder if the same fate will befall HTC. We hope not, but the HTC One M9’s specs have been officially revealed, and for better or worse, it’s more of the same. As we... Read more...
Motorola dazzled us all when it unveiled the Moto 360 nearly a year ago. With its classic, round shape (which was marred slightly by its flat-tire display shape, that facilitated the inclusion of an ambient light sensor), it was easily the best looking of the first generation Android Wear devices. LG tried to one up... Read more...
Apple wants its upcoming smartwatch to be all things to all people, but it will first have to convince people to actually fork over at least $349 for an Apple Watch Sport. After all, many people began ditching their traditional wristwatches with the rise of smartphones — why do we now need two smart devices within arms reach of us at all times? For Read more...
"Of all the souls I have encountered in my journey, his was the most… human." As a person that grew up watching reruns of the TOS, and watching the feature films over and over again (with particular emphasis on Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home), the news of Leonard Nimoy’s passing has hit me to the core. It’s been a rough couple of weeks for Lenovo. The company found itself embroiled in a nasty scandal involving Superfish adware that it installed on consumer notebook and desktop systems. Not only did Superfish hijack encrypted web sessions, but it also left its customers susceptible to man-in-the-middle... Read more...
We’re just days away from its official reveal, but the Galaxy S6 Edge leaks just continue to drip from Samsung’s leaky faucet. Yesterday, we posted some real life images of the Galaxy S6 Edge and its Galaxy S6 sibling. Today, CNET Korea has gotten its hands on official press renders of the Galaxy S6 Edge and it’s... Apple designer extraordinaire Jony Ive is never one to mince his words, and he sank his teeth into Motorola’s flesh earlier this month in an interview with The New Yorker. In the interview, Ive lambasted Motorola’s Moto Maker tool that allows customers to personalize their Moto X smartphones with a number of colors... Read more...
Following the introductions of the dynamic-looking Ford GT and Acura NSX in January (not to mention the Ferrari 488 GTB), forgive me if I’m a bit “meh” on the redesign of the new Audi R8. The inspiration for R8 was unveiled in 2003 as the Le Mans quattro concept. The production version of the vehicle didn’t enter... Read more...
As we discovered late last week, Lenovo has been serving up some tainted Superfish via its consumer PCs. Once Lenovo was called out for its heinous actions, the company offered an apology and vowed to remove Superfish from shipping systems (it provided removal instructions and later an automatic removal tool for... Let’s just say, the UK’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) would have a field day with Hardee’s/Carl’s Jr. ads. The ASA this week came out with guns blazing in an attempt to cut down on the objectification of women in media, and smartphone maker Kazam was the unlucky recipient of a headshot. The ad for the... If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. That’s is the case with the second generation Moto E, which was announced this morning by Motorola. Leading up to the launch of the new smartphone, a product listing on Best Buy’s website suggested that the device would carry a price tag of $99. However, reality... Read more...
American companies tend to reserve their best promotional offers for their U.S.-based customers, and if they’re lucky, to our northern neighbors in Canada.
