According to a new report hailing from South Korea, Google will invest $875 million into LG Display in an effort to ensure that it has a steady stream of screens for its future Pixel Android flagships.   Although a certain “other” South Korean electronics manufacturer is looking to set off a nuclear explosion in the flagship Android smartphone market later this month, LG is hitting the ground running today with its all-new G6. First announced back in late February, the LG G6 has been a bit slow making its way to retail outlets, but the wait is finally over. The LG G6 mostly ticks all the right boxes when it comes to a 2017 flagship with one exception: its processor. The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ will both use a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor in the U.S. market. The LG... Read more...

In the VR space for the PC, it is largely a two-horse race between Facebook-owned Oculus and its Rift headset and the HTC Vive, the latter of which has the backing of Valve. Interestingly enough, it appears that Valve is also working with LG Electronics on yet another VR headset solution, one that will utilize SteamVR Tracking and the OpenVR platform. Perhaps a price war is not too far off. That is getting a bit ahead of ourselves. It remains to be seen how pricing for VR hardware will shake out in 2017, but in terms of available solutions, LG is going to be joining Oculus and HTC. The company is... Read more...
After months of leaks, the LG G6 has finally been officially unveiled. LG has gone completely back to the drawing board versus its predecessor, the questionably modular LG G5. In its place is a sleek, amazingly compact and efficient aluminum unibody design with a large 5.7-inch display. It's a truly premium flagship device and we got some quality hands-on time with it in New York last week.  That display is the main focal point of the G6, and it has a rather unorthodox 18:9 screen ratio, which LG says allows the device to fit better in your hand. The thin bezels of the new flagship... Read more...

In mid-2016, Apple set off a chain of events that leads us to the current situation when it comes to Thunderbolt-enabled displays targeted at Mac users. The company discontinued its 27-inch Thunderbolt Display in June, leaving Mac users without a first-party monitor to connect to their machines. Later in the year, Apple announced that it had partnered with LG to launch the LG-branded UltraFine 5K and UltraFine 4K Displays. However, users of the former have discovered that having a Wi-Fi router nearby can cause some undesirable behavior for both the UltraFine 5K and a connected Mac. A... Read more...
Updated 1/26/2017: Upon further, deeper investigation it turns out our original article contained inaccurate information. Apple never included user reviews for the LG 5K Display, so it is not possible that the company could have censored negative feedback. The reasons for Apple's approach to this are unknown, as reviews for the LG 4K Display are available and have been since the product was first introduced. With that being said, the Ratings & Reviews section for the LG 5K Display is now open for public commentary. We apologize for our error in reporting but felt it was important to update... Mobile World Congress is still a month away but that just means a few more weeks of leaks ahead of the annual convention in Barcelona. The latest leak is a press photo what is presumed to be the LG G6, the company's upcoming flagship Android smartphone. It is not a full shot of the device, though enough is visible to make out a premium design that looks every bit as good as the competition. The G6 is expected to arrive with a 5.7-inch display sporting a not-so-common (in the smartphone space) 2:1 aspect ratio. Part of the reason for that is because LG wanted to minimize the bezels—the phone features... Read more...
The pieces of the puzzle regarding the upcoming LG G6 smartphone are starting to slowly fall into place. The latest puzzle piece pertains to the flagship smartphone’s display, which LG just today announced. The LG G6 is confirmed to include a brand new 5.7-inch display with an unusual 18:9 aspect ratio, instead of the 16:9 aspect ratio that is found on most of today’s smartphones. As a result, the resolution of the display will come in at 1440x2880 (564 PPI) instead of the usual 1440x2560. According to LG, it has moved to adopt an 18:9 aspect ratio in order to “provide more immersive viewing experiences.”... Read more...
The LG G5 might have won praise for its ability to be easily repaired, but its modular design didn’t win over the buying public. Customers shunned the LG G5, flocking instead to Android smartphones from Samsung like the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge. It didn’t help that the G5’s modular "Friends" system was not very well thought out, at least not compared to solutions from the Moto Z lineup of smartphones. In fact, customers had to shut down their smartphone to install a new module. Even finding worthwhile modules became a chore for those that did decide to purchase the G5. Well, LG isn’t about...
