LG Unveils World’s Thinnest 5.2-inch HD Smartphone Display

LG Display, a division of LG Electornics, unveiled what it claims is the world's thinnest Full HD 1080p LCD panel for smartphones, and after looking at the pictures, we won't argue against it. The display in question is 5.2 inches diagonal, but what's really remarkable here is that it measures a mere 2.2mm thin and has a bezel that's only 2.3mm.

Despite its super slim design, this is a high-quality display with a 1920x1080 resolution and brightness of 535 nits when fully cranked up, making it brighter than other Full HD panels currently available.. It's also supposedly easy on the eyes in outdoor sunlight with an Ambient Contrast Ratio of 3.74:1 based on 10,000 lux.

LG Display Thin

LG's impressive design comes courtesy of an in-house technology called Advanced One-Glass-Solution (OGS). This essentially entails attaching the touch layer right on the underside of the glass, thereby negating the need for a separate touch layer. This results in a slimmer panel and also allows more light to shine through for a brighter display.

The LG Optimus G2 is expected to use the new thin display.
