BiTMICRO Ships 416GB E-Disk Altima ATA-133 SSD

State Circuits Conference, but for those looking to slap a solid state
drive into their machine right about now, BiTMICRO has you covered.
Announced at the West 2009 event in San Diego, California, the company has
achieved its first customer shipment of its E-Disk Altima ATA-133 SSD.
The E-Disk Altima E2A133BL ATA-133 SSD model is aimed at those who need high reliability, large capacity and unparalleled performance. If you're not sure you're in that group, try this: military, aerospace and embedded markets, which include imaging, video-on-demand, database and data recording applications. Of course, the company completely failed to include "hardcore gamers" and "plain technology enthusiasts" in that bunch, but we'll just add them on our end.
The 2.5-inch drive utilizes single level cell (SLC) NAND flash memory chips, allowing the model to offer random I/O rates of up to 20,000/sec, burst rates of up to 133 MB/sec, sustained rates of up to 100 MB/sec, and storage capacities of up to 416GB. You read that correctly: 416-gigabytes. On top of being able to hold near half a terabyte within a single SSD, the drive can also server up media, documents or trade secrets while in temperatures ranging from –40°C to +85°C, proving that hostile environments are no problem whatsoever. BiTMICRO was careful to omit pricing information while gloating about its newest device, but given just how rough and spacious it is, we'd expect it to be well out of the range of most budgets.
