Although updated sales figures haven’t yet been released, and some initial reviews were less than stellar, if the movie is any indicator, EA’s Star Wars Battlefront is poised to be a resounding success in the gaming community. And with an expansion pack inbound, that will likely feature content that ties in with the Force Awakens, it’ll probably continue that success for quite a while. AMD has been offering free copies of Star Wars Battlefront to new buyers of Radeon Fury graphics cards since mid-November 2015 and will continue to do so through the end of this month. But with... At last year’s CES NVIDIA’s CEO Jen-Hsun Huang unveiled the original Tegra X1-based Drive PX digital cockpit computer and discussed some of the difficulties associated with self-driving cars and the technologies that would be needed to overcome them. He discussed deep learning, deep neural nets, and the massive amounts of data that need to be collected and processed to ensure self-driving cars are not only safe, but instill confidence in the passengers and provide a good experience. Since then, Jen-Hsun claims that “several thousand man-years of effort have gone into developing... Read more...
As we covered earlier today, Lenovo has completely revamped their ThinkPad product lines for business and professional types, with not only the latest in platform technologies from Intel and others, like Skylake mobile CPUs and PCIe SSDs, but also some solid design updates and key feature additions. More and more, ThinkPad notebooks from Lenovo are taking on design cues and features that were brought to market with the advent of the ThinkPad X1 Carbon. The new 14-inch ThinkPad X1 Carbon is now both thinner and lighter at just 2.6 pounds, with Intel Skylake on board and an NVMe PCI Express... Read more...
Although the Consumer Electronics Show hasn’t officially started just yet, many exhibitors are already setup and demoing their latest wares at various locations away from the convention center. Our first stop today was at Lenovo’s suite, where the company was showing off a wide array of products, from mainstream, thin and light notebooks to powerful, multi-GPU powered gaming systems. We’ve got a few of Lenovo’s product announcements already posted if you’d like some additional reading and will have a companion hands on video going up shortly featuring Lenovo’s... Read more...
Periodically, Amazon updates and revamps its lineup of tablets with upgraded models and new names. While the company's tablets have kept the Fire branding over the years, the combination of letters and numbers that follow have changed. This year, for example, Amazon removed the HDX tag and now offers tablets with simply “Fire” or “Fire HD” branding. As its simpler name may suggest, Amazon’s latest Fire tablet is a more basic model that doesn’t have all of the bells and whistles of the HD series, which is available in three sizes. Instead, the all-new 7-inch Fire tablet has an ultra-low $50 price... Read more...
HTC has been accused of copying Apple’s iPhone 6/6s design with its latest smartphone, the One A9. That’s not exactly a fair accusation however, since the iPhone 6 has many of the same design aesthetics as some of HTC’s previous One flagship phones, particularly the One M7 which launched in 2013. Regardless of where the design inspiration for the One A9 originated, one thing is certain: the One A9 is a good-looking smartphone with an all-metal unibody design and four attractive colors, which include Deep Garnet, Carbon Gray, Opal Silver, and Topaz Gold. All drama aside, the HTC One A9 is a mid-range... Read more...

Update: 10/23/15 11:20AM - A definite perk of writing about technology is getting to attend events and spending hands on time with bleeding-edge products. We've been fortunate to do that on several occasions, including today at Dell World 2015 where the company is making several major announcements as well as showing off some rather impressive looking forthcoming products. One of those products is the XPS 15, Dell's hot new Ultrabook with a gorgeous 15.6-inch 4K resolution Infinity Edge display. It sports the same near-borderless design as the XPS 13 that impressed us earlier this year, but in... Read more...

Competing with Apple in the mobile space isn't rocket science, it's just a matter of sticking to a proven formula for success -- build a premium device with superior specs than the one Apple is selling, inject it with Android, and then undercut the iWhatever in price. That's not to say Apple is the only premium slate target of opportunity but we'd surmise Apple would consider it the sincerest for of flattery anyway. Incidentally, we've just described the ASUS ZenPad S 8.0. It's a well designed Android tablet with Intel inside, and it boasts better specs than the iPad mini 3. It's also less expensive... Samsung has done very well with a couple of key design elements in their previous smartphone offerings, curved displays and the larger format Galaxy Note line. The Galaxy Note series has done especially well for the brand, with a user base that doesn't mind a bit more heft in exchange for more screen real estate, as well as other unique functionality that comes with the Note series. So too have Samsung "Edge" devices like the Galaxy Note Edge and Galaxy S6 Edge, which offer curved glass styling that turns heads and offers some additional differentiating functionality of its own.  Samsung is...
