Microsoft introduced its latest Zune models, as well as the version 3.0 update of its software in September. And here we are, already facing a price cut, and a pretty good one at that. Although Microsoft would like to call it a holiday price cut, one would have to wonder if the difficult economy, which has led to some pretty sad forecasts... Read more...
AT&T has teased iPhone users a few times by putting up notices of free wi-fi at AT&T hotspot, only to pull them down hours later after the blogosphere (and usually us!) got excited, thus alerting them to their mistake.  While the apparently miscues seem to point to them working on such a feature, it appears the fact that the free... It's no secret that Zune sales are a fraction of those of the iPod, and apparently GameStop has seen enough. In its earnings call on Thursday, GameStop indicated it has exited the Zune marketplace. The move is unlikely to affect GameStop, whose sales come almost completely from video games but it puts up another hurdle in Microsoft's attempt... A story in the New York Times had the blogosphere up in arms, but Microsoft indicates we shouldn't believe it. Perrette, the president of digital distribution for NBC Universal,... Read more...
While some reports seem to point to NBC returning to iTunes, that seems unlikely, as the Zune Marketplace, along with the changes to the Zune 2.5 software, has added NBC to the fold.Notable in the deal is NBC Universal's inclusion, as the company's programs disappeared from Apple's iTunes Store in December following disputes over pricing and... iPods, iPhones; those are hacker targets, not (generally) in malicious ways, but to extend functionality or remove (ahem) roadblocks.  Now the Zune has had one of its roadblocks bypassed. One of the early complaints about the WiFi sharing ability on the Zune was the rule that limits playback to 3 days or 3 plays on shared tracks. The Zune... Read more...

Zune took a price drop this week, losing $50 of its original $249 price.  On the official Microsoft Zune blog, it was dismissed in little more than a paragraph.  Coincidental that this happened so close to this week's Apple press event?  You decide. Some of you may have already heard, but tomorrow we’re dropping the suggested retail price... Read more...
Microsoft has finally hit the 1 million sales mark with its Zune series of MP3 players, and is now only about 99 million short of catching up to the 100 million mark of rival Apple.  Still, it's a very good sign that a major player like MS can muster up so many sales in a relatively short time, especially given that companies like Apple and...
