After months of anticipation, Google finally revealed its Nexus 9 tablet the other day, and overall, it looks sweet. Aesthetically, it's pleasing to the eye, and under-the-hood, it sports a 64-bit SoC, courtesy of NVIDIA's Denver-based Tegra K1. And, if you love pixels, the Nexus 9 sure has a lot of them: 3.1 million, to be exact. All-in-all, an impressive offering. NVIDIA's Tegra processor is a pretty great slice of silicon to find in a tablet. But finding it in a car? Yeah, that's a reality as well. The company announced today an expansion of its automotive ecosystem in partnership with Honda. Together, the two are launching Honda Connect, which is NVIDIA's first Asia-based partner to use its chips for in-car audio and information systems. It looks like HP has decided to take a page from the retail guidebook, as it's teasing us with some holiday-targeted product well before the holiday season could even be considered "close'. This product comes to us in the form of five notebooks, with three targeting the low-end part of the spectrum, and the other two skirting the $1,000 price-point. A pair of classic game titles developed by Valve have now been ported over to NVIDIA's recently launched Tegra K1-powered SHIELD tablet. The classic games include Portal and Half-Life 2, though these aren't straight (or lazy) ports -- both feature a wide variety of high-end and exclusive visual effects built to showcase the 192-core Tegra K1 chip in NVIDIA's SHIELD. It might be called the HTC Volantis, but what it's set to become is the next tablet in Google's Nexus line. Dubbed Nexus 9, this 8.9-inch tablet is expected to feature a 2048x1440 resolution (281 ppi), 2GB of RAM, 16 and 32GB storage options, an 8 megapixel camera at the back and a 3 megapixel one up front, front-facing speakers, and could weigh 418g, or 427g if it's the LTE model. To quickly recap, the SHIELD tablet’s specifications include NVIDIA Tegra K1 SoC (clocked at up to 2.2GHz), paired to 2GB of RAM and an 8”, full-HD IPS display, with a native resolution of 1920x1200. Google's ongoing I/O conference has so far been bursting at the seams with interesting announcements. In fact, there's been so many announcements that it's been a little hard to keep up. One of the more interesting ones surprisingly doesn't come from Google, though. Rather, it comes from NVIDIA, and it's a development that bodes well for its Tegra SoC. NVIDIA says that its Tegra K1 has "led the charge" at I/O with Android-based products on the way that are targeted at gaming, TV, automotive, and robotics markets. Google's Project Tango Tablet development kit is a 3D mapping and spatially-aware device that, with a number of cameras and sensors on board, can detect its surroundings and your movements in three dimensions.
