AOC’s new 24-inch monitor looks nice enough at first blush, with a relatively thin silver bezel and what is no doubt a crisp, bright image, but underneath is where the good stuff is located. The company built a pair of 7W Onkyo speakers into the base. AOC is billing this display (the i2473Pwm) as “ideal entertainment hub” because of it. The 24-inch LED-backlit IPS monitor also features full HD resolution as well as one VGA and two HDMI inputs. It offers 5ms response time, the ability to tilt -5 degrees to 20 degrees, and it comes with a 75x75mm VESA mount. But obviously, the company... Read more...
Tired of fishing for your remote control in the confines of your couch? Take a break from looking for it and fire up your Android handset instead. It's a viable option, provided you own a compatible Onkyo receiver and download/install the company's new Remote App for Android. "Operating over a wireless local network, the application will allow Onkyo owners to stream music stored on an Android device to an Onkyo network audio system," Onkyo explains. "Music played through an Onkyo system gains far greater power and fidelity." Onkyo says users will be able browser networked content without needing... Read more...
Whether you love or hate Apple, it's impossible to deny the impact that the iPod has had on the world of consumer electronics. It's the de facto MP3 player now, and even vehicles have grown to adopt Apple's technology from the factory. Many new cars are shipping with the ability to tap into one's iPhone or iPod library and play that through the car's stereo. And the same kind of thing is happening in the home cinema world. Many, many new home theater options are now shipping with integrated iPod/iPhone support, and given just how many people now use one of those as their primary jukebox, we can't... Read more...
Who says retro went out of style years ago? Retro is most definitely in, particularly when one does it as classy as Onkyo does. The company has just revealed a new line of separate Hi-Fi components at CES, and they're all about as beautiful as they come. Home cinema equipment is generally seen as boring in terms of design; almost every single box looks like the other. But these are a sight to behold. All three models, the P-3000R pre-amplifier, M-5000R power amplifier, and C-7000R CD player, incorporate Onkyo’s new Dynamic Intermodulation Distortion Reduction Circuitry (DIDRC) to counteract... A little old, a little new. Mix them together and you get Onkyo's newest. The Onkyo CS-V645 DVD/CD Mini AV system has a touch of retro style, but it supports one of the newest media players. By glancing at it, you may expect this unit to play back cassettes or records, but no, it's an iPod sound system. Designed to work in close quarters (dorm rooms, offices, etc.), the system has a built-in iPod dock, a USB connection, an HDMI output (for passing along HDMI content to a connected display) and a pair of two-way loudspeakers. Aside from the iPod, it can also play CDs and various other formats via... Read more...
Well, the birds have been circling Blockbuster for some time now, but they haven't been able to dive down just yet. The rental company is still hanging on, and their only real chance at remaining on the map is revamping their digital delivery services. That means landing partners willing to push it, and Onkyo has recently signed on with a new Blu-ray player that offers Blockbuster On Demand. There have been a few Blu-ray players to surface with Netflix 'Watch Instantly' support, but few with support for Blockbuster's alternative. The new BD-SP808 addresses that gap by offering a service that allows... Read more...
Half the fun in putting together your ultimate home theater setup is piecing together parts you hand selected after auditioning each one (you don't just buy audio components based on paper specs and price, do you?). It's similar to rolling your own rig, but if you're just not into that sort of thing, or don't have the time, there are packaged home theaters out there other than the ones you'll find at Walmart, and ones that presumably don't suck. Enter Onkyo, a name any audio enthusiast is familiar with. Addressing those folks who can't or won't assemble their own mish-mash of audio equipment, Onkyo... Read more...
For those who take their audio seriously -- as in, serious enough to drop a couple of grand, or more, on a home theater receiver -- Onkyo today announced the release of two new high-end network A/V receivers, the TX-NR5008 and TX-NR3008. Not for the faint of wallet, the cheapest of the two (TX-NR3008) runs a cool $2,100, while the the TX-NR5008 commands $2.700. To help justify the hefty investment, both receivers bring a ton of features to the table, including support for network audio streaming, various multi-room setups, iPhone/iPod playback over USB, and fully immersive 3D compatibility, Onkyo... Sotec, a brand that primarily stays in Japan behind parent company Onkyo, has just issued a new netbook that takes a unique approach on things. For starters, it includes a 32GB SSD, which is rather large compared to other netbook-bound SSDs. The DC204A3 also features a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, Intel's 945GSE graphics chipset, 1GB of memory and a 10.1" display with a typical 1,024 x 600 resolution. Otherwise, the machine's pretty standard. It's got Windows XP Home SP3, a few USB 2.0 sockets, audio input / output ports and an ultrathin design. Strangely, Sotec decided to ditch the VGA and...
