Samsung isn’t the only company rolling out Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich updates to its phones. HTC announced that 16 of its handsets with get the ICS treatment, although details on exactly when that will happen are spare. We do know that HTC is in the “early stages” of pushing the update to HTC Sensation and Sensation SE devices, with Sensation 4G and Sensation XL to follow shortly thereafter. Considering that it will apparently take weeks for all Sensation and Sensation SE devices to get the update, it might be quite a while before owners of other handsets see ICS. The full... According to a report from Digitimes, industry sources have indicated that a co-branded Google and ASUS tablet may be coming to the U.S. as early as May. The tablet reportedly would be a 7-inch model and cost between $199-$249, and would also feature the Google Play Store. This is in line with earlier rumors that have the tablet pegged as sporting a quad-core Tegra 3 chip and shipping with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, like the one NVIDIA and ASUS teased at CES. A low-cost 7-inch tablet with media (i.e., Google Play’s apps, music, books, and movies) as a central focus would compete well... Read more...

Despite the unimaginative moniker, the Child Pad from Archos looks to be an interesting alternative for parents who want to give their kids a fun and educational tablet experience without letting a 4-year-old play with a $500 device. The 7-inch Child Pad will be available for $129 at the end of the month and features a 1GHz processor, 1GB of RAM--and surprisingly for a low-cost kids’ tablet, Android 4.0. The Child Pad has a fun, engaging user interface and comes pre-loaded with a slew of kids’ games and apps, including (you guessed it!) Angry Birds. To keep the little ones safe from... Read more...

Today is a good day for Android users with devices running Ice Cream Sandwich, and a great day for Android users who prefer the Chrome web browser for their desktop browsers. Google announced Chrome for Android today, and of course, it’s technically in beta. The current default Android browser is fine, but it’s nothing special, so that alone is reason to download Chrome from the Android Market right away. However, Chrome for Android brings not just a slightly better browsing experience on Android devices, but a significant change in the way Android users interact with their devices.... Read more...

Months after unveiling its TWC TV app for iPad and weeks hence from bringing a non-streaming version of it (“My TWC”) to Android smartphones and tablets, Time Warner Cable announced that TWC TV is now available on the iPhone, as well. iPhone users who also have broadband Internet in the home can use the app to stream live TV to their device, control the DVR, and even change channels, with that last feature being ideal fodder for surreptitious sibling-on-sibling tomfoolery. The TWC TV app also features an interactive program guide (with show info, show art, and filtering options) and... Read more...
When we first received the new NVIDIA Tegra 3-powered Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime for testing, we had solid communication from both Asus and NVIDIA that this tablet was one of Google's test vehicles for their upcoming Android 4.0 operating system, also referred to as Ice Cream Sandwich. Besides the fact that the folks at Google have a bit of a sweet tooth, at least when it comes to development project code names, this new iteration of Google's OS reportedly was targeted primarily at performance enhancements, with a few feature-adds and UI tweaks thrown into the mix...
