There are certain things that, once experienced, you can never go back to the way things were. Mobile phones, 30-inch monitors (and/or dual-monitors), and solid state drives all fall into this category. There's also a less obvious submission, one that sits right beneath your fingertips -- the keyboard. Not just any keyboard, mind you, but mechanical planks. Once you try one, there's no going back to a membrane-based keyboard. It's all about the switches, and some of the most popular are the Cherry MX, of which there are several different types. Cherry MX Blue, for example, are tactile and make... Read more...

It has been a while since I personally have setup a bench, rolled up my sleeves and built a test system with top-shelf components, a fresh OS install and some overclocking mojo. However, Intel's recent release of Ivy Bridge-E gave us a hankering to do just that. We've been testing a lot of tablets, smartphones and Ultrabooks but there's a satisfaction with building a high performance system from the ground up, that you just don't get from pre-built devices... EVGA recently took the wraps off a new high-end X79 motherboard dubbed the X79 Dark and its black PCB with red accents, as it turned out,... Read more...
It has been a while since I have personally setup a test bench, rolled up my sleeves and built a test system with top-shelf components, a fresh OS install and some overclocking mojo. However, Intel's recent release of Ivy Bridge-E gave us a hankering to do just that. We've been testing a lot of tablets, smartphones and ultrabooks, but there's a certain satisfaction that comes with building a high performance system from the ground up, that you just don't get from pre-built devices. So I decided to see if I still had the chops. EVGA recently took the wraps off a new high-end X79 motherboard... Read more...
Every once in a while, a game comes out and pushes the envelope, requiring high-end hardware to run with maxed out visual quality settings at high resolutions. Battlefield 4 is one of those games, and if you're looking for an excuse to upgrade your system, you now have one. When you're shopping upgrades, Corsair wants you to consider one of its high performance memory kits, but does faster memory really matter for gaming? Corsair says it does, at least for BF4, noting that Electronic Arts recommends a minimum of 8GB of system memory. "Interestingly, Battlefield 4 takes a pretty holistic approach... Read more...
Over the past few years, Corsair has steadily ramped up the number and types of computer chassis it manufacturers. The high-end 700D and 800D have been followed by a number of midrange products and one uber-expensive deluxe model, the massive 900D. The case we're reviewing today, the 750D, is meant to drop into the $200 price bracket, where it faces competition from Corsair's own 650D mid-tower as well as a number of other chassis from manufacturers that offer products at similar or somewhat cheaper price points. Despite the name, the 750D is actually somewhat smaller than the original 700D/800D... Read more...

Asus, Corsair, and Intel held a joint event in the Four Seasons hotel yesterday, near the Moscone Center in San Francisco where IDF13 is currently taking place. During the event, the three companies outlined the many advances they’ve all made over the last few years and some well-known overclockers took products from each company—namely the Intel Core i7-4960X, some Corsair memory, and an Asus X79-based motherboard—and overclocked them using liquid nitrogen, in an attempt to break a number of world performance records. We didn’t stick around long enough to see just... Read more...
Shortly after refreshing its gaming systems, MAINGEAR announced a new line of gaming rigs with the EPIC FORCE and EPIC RUSH. The former has a full tower chassis while the latter is built with a mid tower case, but both bear the workmanship and design of other custom systems we’ve seen recently from MAINGEAR. Both rigs feature EKWB water cooling setups, including a “BiTurbo” pump that purports to keep fluid going even if one of the pumps fails, as many as three radiators (on the FORCE) or two (on the RUSH), and a killer reservoir. MAINGEAR EPIC FORCE The EPIC FORCE, which comes... Read more...
