Most Android users will be happy to know that Google is actually working to make Google Assistant as universal as possible across a myriad of devices. The AI assistant will be rolling out to all smartphones running Android 7.0 Nougat and Android 6.0 Marshmallow eventually but will also be available on some newly announced partner devices like the fabulous new LG G6 (our hands-on preview). What is Google Assistant and why would you want it in the first place? Google Assistant is an intelligent personal AI that was recently only available on Google proper devices like Pixel and... OnePlus doesn't always get things right—some would argue that the company often gets things wrong, at least when it comes to smooth product launches—but it's learning from its mistakes and continues to give fans reasons to root for the company. The latest example is a newly announced price cut for its popular OnePlus 2 handset. Effectively immediately (and just in time for Valentine's Day, if you're looking for a geek gift idea), the OnePlus 2 is $349, down $40 from its $389 launch price. The new low price is a permanent one, not a temporary sale or promotion. And don't worry if you just bought... Read more...
While kids across the land are anxiously awaiting the arrival of Santa and wondering what gifts he'll bring, HTC has decided that every owner of an unlocked One M9 handset living in the U.S. made the nice list and will receive a special gift of their own -- an over-the-air (OTA) update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. HTC is making good on a promise it made earlier this month. Following that up, HTC's Vice President of Product Management, Mo Versi, announced the news on Twitter yesterday, saying the updates were being finalized for distribution in the next day (which is today). In addition, owners of... Read more...
With the release of Android 6.0, otherwise known as Marshmallow, Google isn't messing around when it comes to battery life. There are some key changes to note compared to previous versions of Android, one of which requires devices makers to track and report battery usage. That might not sound like a big deal on the surface, but it's worth noting that some phone makers have been known to hide battery stats. The new policies are laid out in Google's Compatibility Definition Document (PDF) for Android. In section 8.4 labeled Power Consumption Accounting, Google lays down the law by stating devices... Read more...

LG will have bragging rights as the first Android OEM (save for Google’s Nexus devices) to deliver the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to customers. There’s one big stipulation here though for those that are right now rushing to the Settings menu to check for new updates — the Marshmallow update is only available to G4 customers in Poland. And unfortunately, LG hasn’t provided a rollout schedule for the rest of the world.  If you recall, LG made similar claims last year about being the first to deliver Android 5.0 Lollipop, also to LG smartphone owners in Poland. We’re not so sure what makes... Read more...

Google has posted factory images of Android 6.0.0 (Build MRA58K) to its developer site, and supported devices include the Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 smartphones, Nexus 7 and Nexus 9 tablets, and the Nexus Player. So you can head on over and download them now if you wish to... Read more...
Google is expected to have plenty of news to share with the public at it’s special event scheduled for September 29th. But perhaps the two most anticipated products that are set to be revealed next week are two new flagship Nexus smartphones: the Nexus 5X and the Nexus 6P. A leaked Amazon product page have given us the clearest look at the specs for the smaller of the two smartphones: the LG-produced Nexus 5X. The product page confirms a 5.2-inch 1080p display, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor (which is curiously paired with just 2GB of RAM). The entry-level Nexus 5X (LG-H791) only features...
