Ultrabooks continue to be the hot trend in the Windows notebook arena. With the recent introduction of Intel's new, low power 3rd generation Ivy Bridge Core series processors, designs are becoming thinner with every iteration, while paradoxically it seems, performance continues to scale higher.  We've seen Ultrabook machines from virtually all the majors here at HotHardware and many of them are targeted at consumers on the go where thin is in, and not so much the business user, where practical usability, durability and performance are critical.   Lenovo however, is stepping outside the... There's a new ThinkPad Tablet in town, and something tells us this one is going to be a lot more memorable than the prior one. The ThinkPad Tablet 2 for Windows 8 was unveiled this week, marking Lenovo's first slate to cater to Microsoft's forthcoming OS. It ships with an optional digitizer and pen for precision input, 3G wireless with Lenovo Mobile Access pay-as-you-go plans and 4G models, and of course, Win8. The unit itself measures 9.8mm thick, weighs under 1.3lbs. and offers a 10.1" display. There's also an optional keyboard and dock -- not surprising given that it's a ThinkPad -- and you'll... Lenovo's venerable ThinkPad line of notebooks has likely won more awards over time for the product's durable, functional design elements than just about any other notebook on the market. However, over the years it could be said that the business class workhorse line of laptops wasn't winning any beauty contests any time soon.  This wasn't necessarily a bad thing.  ThinkPad's traditionally have been known for their high quality fit and finish and unfailing dependability but there are far more glamorous notebooks out there for those looking for style over substance. However, recently Lenovo... Read more...
Lenovo is getting ready for the back-to-school shopping season with the announcement of the new ThinkPad X131e laptop. This 11.6-inch laptop features a rugged design to ensure it withstands the demands of students and school. The ThinkPad X131e is available with dual core AMD E-300 and E2-1800 APUs with AMD Radeon graphics or Intel Core i3-2367M and Intel Celeron 877 processors with Intel HD Graphics. Other features include Dolby Advanced Audio, USB 3.0, and a low-light webcam. Lenovo says the ThinkPad X131e's battery should last up to 8.5 hours. The laptop weighs less than four pounds. Pricing... ThinkPad historians may recall Lenovo's X220 (laptop) and X220T (convertible tablet / notebook) from last year. Both were formidable machines, but Intel's 3rd-gen series of Core processors weren't out yet. Turns out, that kind of horsepower was missing in certain models. Now, however, the company's dual-core Ivy Bridge CPUs are out in full force, bringing a nice boost in computing throughput as well as energy efficiency to a space that's begging for both. The Lenovo ThinkPad X230T is a netvertible in its truest sense. Open it up, and it's a 12.5-inch ultraportable notebook that seems a bit heftier... Read more...
These days, it seems we're hearing more and more about tablets eating away at market share that was once ruled by netbooks and notebooks. Netbooks we can believe -- we haven't seen a compelling wave of new netbooks in months -- but are people really choosing tablets with limited functionality over full-scale laptops? That argument is expected to hit an even higher note once Windows 8 launches this autumn, bringing a full "desktop operating system" to a tablet form factor. But for now, there's Windows 7, and that's exactly what's onboard Lenovo's newest convertible tablet, the ThinkPad X230T. ThinkPad... Read more...
An Ultrabook? A netbook? Something in-between. Maybe this one's just a standard notebook, and that's perfectly okay. Lenovo's ThinkPad X130e is now shipping to consumers, a few weeks after being adopted by select schools. The machine packs an 11.6" display, 4GB of memory, and your choice of an AMD Fusion API or Intel's Core i CPU. It's also priced very attractively, with a starting point at $429. It's rigid and rugged, like you'd expect a ThinkPad to be, including a rubber bumper around the top corner, reinforced corners, bezels and hinges, and an Active Protection System that protects data in... Lenovo's first business-class Android-based tablet, the ThinkPad Tablet, is now available. This 10.1-inch, Android 3.1 tablet features pen-based handwriting recognition technology. The tablet also features a full-size USB port, full-size SD card slot, mini-HDMI for connecting to external displays, and a keyboard folio case with optical TrackPoint. The ThinkPad Tablet is available with various configurations including a 16 GB model without the digitizer pen for $499 or $529 including the pen. The 32 GB model with the digitizer pen is $599, and pricing for the 64 GB version with the pen is $699.... Read more...
Looks like the Eee Transformer has company. While many tablets are slimming down (and in turn, losing valuable ports), Lenovo's ThinkPad Tablet remains a bit on the bulky side in hopes of business professionals appreciating it. The Tablet is a business-oriented slate with a 10.1" panel, a Tegra 2 (1GHz) chip, and most importantly, a full-size USB port. That's crucial because Lenovo's also introducing a $99 Keyboard Folio case, which will wrap around the device to keep it safe, but also provide a full QWERTY keyboard and an optical trackpad for moving around the OS. It features Android 3.1, access... Read more...
The new ThinkPad X1 is a formidable system; it's generally being billed as Lenovo's champion of choice vs. the Macbook Air. That comparison makes sense based on the Air's visibility, but the X1 is set to compete across the entire spectrum, including new machines from Dell and HP. The specs for the machine we tested don't represent Lenovo's highest-end X1 configuration; the company sells two SSD-powered versions of the diminutive system as well... The new Lenovo ThinkPad X1 is a formidable system. It's generally being billed as Lenovo's champion of choice vs. the Macbook Air. That comparison makes sense based on the Air's visibility, but the X1 is set to compete across the entire spectrum, including new thin and light machines from Dell and HP and in the enterprise, where perhaps the Air doesn't have a strong presence. The specs for the machine we tested don't represent Lenovo's highest-end X1 configuration; the company sells two SSD-powered versions of the diminutive system as well.  Here's a quick video walk-through of the... Lenovo's ThinkPad line has always been sexy in its own way. Solid, rigid, and robust, but also classy and understated. It's a design that has withstood the test of time, and there's no sense in changing what works. But a gentle tweak and a nip-tuck never hurt a notebook, that's for sure. Just as MSI's X-Slim line and Apple's MacBook Air redefined "thin" in the laptop realm, the newly unveiled ThinkPad X1 is about to do the same for the classic ThinkPad range. This highly portable device is about the thinnest business notebook we've seen to date, and while Lenovo hasn't "officially" put it on sale... Read more...
