A thing is worth whatever others are willing to pay for it, and amid speculation as to how much TV and movie streaming service Hulu is worth has ranged from half a billion dollars or so to as much as $2 billion. Enter into evidence exhibit A, Yahoo's recent $1.1 billion acquisition of blogging service Tumblr that has a few industry analysts scratching their heads. DirecTV is reportedly giving some serious thought to making an offer for Hulu, the six-year-old video streaming site. Should DirecTV make a formal bid, it's not a foregone conclusion that Hulu would accept it, as the site's owners -- Walt Disney Co., News Corp., and Comcast -- are looking at various options, including bids from other interested parties. Hulu, which is on the verge of posting record first-quarter revenue and subscriber additions, is reportedly reaching out to buyers to see if there's any interest in an acquisition. Intel is trying to break into the streaming content business -- again. At the AllThingsDigital media conference today, Erik Huggers, vice president of Intel Media, told assembled journalists that the company has been hatching a new idea for the TV space. "We have been working for (the past) year to set up Intel media, a new group focused on developing an Internet platform," Huggers said. Nintendo (NTDOY) is adding some value to its Wii U console with the launch of Nintendo TVii, which essentially uses the GamePad controller with its second screen and touch capabilities as both a remote control and a content aggregator. Fair warning to any company that's still interested in trying to acquire Hulu, the price may have just gone up. The streaming service had a heck of a year, ending 2012 with more than 3 million paying Hulu Plus subscribers contributing to approximately $695 million in revenue, the company announced in a blog post. That's an addition of more than 1 million paying subscribers since April of this year. Hulu's revenue growth is nothing short of staggering. Located at www.hulu.com/videogames, the new video game hub also has information about a game's release date so you will know when you can get your hands on a game you're eyeing.
