Yet, that's what many of us do, sitting tethered to our PCs as we toil for the fat cats in charge. The wiser (and more fit) among us have adopted standing desks, and the truly health conscious have even adapted treadmills into their daily work routine. But you can trump them all by building your very own Hamster Wheel Standing Desk.

It's also depressing in a way, serving as a daily reminder that all you're really doing is spinning your wheels and getting nowhere fast. But hey, at least you're likely to live longer than your co-workers, provided you don't try any crazy stunts on the wheel and break your neck.

Hamster wheels are commonly found in any pet store, though to own one large enough for an adult, you'll have to put your work gloves on and build it yourself. It took the folks at Instructables 24 hours to construct, and the files detailing how to do it yourself are freely available.
The project required 4 sheets of 3/4-inch plywood, 4 skate wheels, 2 pipes, 240 wood screws, and a pint of glue. That's enough to build a wheel 80 inches in diameter supported by a 24-inch wide base. Slide in a standing desk and you're all set to make the conversion from a sedentary office worker bee to human hamster.
You have to admit, this is pretty neat, though it's also sure to attract plenty of ridicule from co-workers, friends, family members, and anyone else who sees you trotting along.
