Western Digital Expands Line of WD RED NAS Drives With 4TB and 2.5-Inch Options
The 2.5-inch WD Red NAS drives, like the 3.5-inch versions, are also purpose-built for SOHO NAS storage with 1 to 5 bays. The SATA 6Gbps drives feature IntelliPower rotational speed and come in capacities of 1TB and 750GB.
Why the 2.5-inch versions? “This small form factor enables our customers to use high capacity NAS hard drives that offer performance, quiet operation, and low power consumption in a more compact NAS enclosure,” wrote WD in a press release. “We see an opportunity for growth in smaller footprint NAS systems, media players and other industrial applications.”
All of the WD Red drives offer NASware 2.0 technology for better reliability and data protection in the case of power loss or disruption and offer a three-year limited warranty plus 24x7 dedicated phone support, and the 3.5-inch versions have 3D Active Balance Plus, which is designed to enhance both drive performance and reliability over time.
The drives are available now. The 4TB WD Red is $229, and the 2.5-inch 1TB and 750GB models will run you $99 and $79, respectively.
