ViewPad 4 Tablet Is Really a 4.1" Android-Based Smartphone
What's the definition of a tablet these days? Generally, most tablets
are between 7" and 12", but ViewSonic has us wondering if that's the
case. The company has just introduced what they're calling a new tablet
at CES. The ViewPad 4 is joining the ViewPad 7 and ViewPad 10. You could
probably guess, but the ViewPad 4 is a 4.1" tablet. What's interesting
is that there are smartphones on the market today with larger screens
than this. Many of the phones announced at CES this week have 4.3"
displays. So, what's the deal?
The deal is that this could easily be called a smartphone. In truth, it really is. It's just like a normal tablet in terms of functionality and performance, but far more portable, and there's the ability to call someone. It has Android as the OS, a 4.1" WVGA touch screen, a Qualcomm MSM 8255 (1GHz), 720p HD playback, a 5MP autofocus camera, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, GPS/A-GPS and Bluetooth.

As part of this expansion, the company is introducing the ViewPad 4, an Android-based 4.1-inch WVGA touch capacitive device offering tablet power and performance -- and a phone -- all for carrying in your pocket. Based on a Qualcomm® MSM 8255, 1GHz platform, the ViewPad 4 offers full cell phone functionality bundled with HD 720p video recording, playback, upload and HDMI 720p display output. A 5-megapixel auto-focus camera and Bluetooth® 2.1 and 802.11 b/g/n wireless enable video telephony. Additionally, GPS / A-GPS functionality makes it easy to identify points of interest from anywhere. The ViewPad 4 will be available in the middle of 2011. Pricing will be dependent upon carriers.
