Ultrabook Price Drops are Inevitable, Happening Soon
If the only thing holding you back from purchasing an Ultrabook is price, good news, your patience may soon be rewarded. According to reports, Ultrabook prices could fall anywhere from 5 percent to 10 percent in the first quarter of 2012, which would push higher end models below the $1,000 ceiling Intel had always envisioned.
News and rumor site DigiTimes reports that Lenovo, Hewlett-Packard, Toshiba, and Dell are all getting ready to launch Ultrabooks, adding some much needed competition to a field that's fairly thin at the moment. The bigger challenge, however, is coping with high processor and solid state drive pricing, which has kept the cost of some Ultrabooks above the $1,000 line.
Be that as it may, these upcoming price drops are just the beginning. Acer believes Ultrabook prices could drop by as much as 20 percent by the second quarter of 2012, and could even get as low as $499 in 2013. That's not much more than a high-end netbook, yet Ultrabooks are leaps and bounds ahead of those Intel Atom-based machines.
