U.K. Retailer Tesco Challenges Amazon with Hudl, an Affordable 7-inch Android Jellybean Tablet
It's a well-equipped tablet with a 1440x900 display resolution, quad-core 1.5GHz processor, 16GB of internal storage (expandable to 48GB via microSD card slot), dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, micro HDMI output, and up to 9 hours of video battery life.
"Hudl is a colorful, accessible tablet for the whole family to enjoy. The first stage in our tablet offering, it’s convenient, integrated and easy to use with no compromise on spec," Tesco Chief Executive, Philip Clarke, said in a statement. "Customers are quite rightly very discerning about the technology they buy so we knew we had to be competitive on all fronts.
"Being online is an increasingly essential part of family life and whilst tablets are on the rise, usage is still quite limited. We feel the time is right for Tesco to help widen tablet ownership and bring the fun, convenience and excitement of tablets to even more customers across the U.K. The digital revolution should be for the many, not for the few."
Tesco designed and built its own brand tablet from scratch. In addition to running anything found on Google Play, Hudl comes ready to take advantage of Tesco's full range of digital services, such as blinkbox, Clubcard TV, banking, and shopping for goods and groceries.
Hudl comes in four color options and will be available to purchase in-store and online for £119 (around $190) starting September 30. Tesco Clubcard holders will get an even better price, the company said.
