Twitter's #music Service Launches Today, Includes Separate iPhone App
The idea behind Twitter #music is simple; it detects and “surfaces” the most popular tracks and artists based on various types of Twitter activity. Music that emerges on #music is currently pulling from iTunes, Spotify, and Rdio, although Twitter says that it’s looking at additional music service providers, as well.
If you want to check out tracks by those you follow on Twitter, hit the #NowPlaying link; you can also start with an artist you’re following and explore the music from artists they’re following. You valuable feature is the “”Emerging” link, which lets you dig up “hidden talent found in the Tweets”. You can listen to the songs that you find with the built-in player, and you can Tweet what you’re listening to with the click of a button.
The #music service works from the iPhone app or from the web-based version (an Android app is coming soon), and it’s currently available in the U.S., Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand, with more countries being added to the list in the future.
