Toys R Us Starts Taking Pre-orders on $150 Tabeo e2 Android Tablet for Kids

Android tablet prices have fallen considerably in the past year, and we're at the point where a low price tag doesn't automatically denote a crappy slate. Such is the case with the Tabeo e2, a new 8-inch tablet designed for kids that costs just $150. Toys R Us is taking pre-orders on the device right now and will start shipping out orders next month.

The Tabeo e2 will be available exclusively at Toys R Us stores and online at Tabeo's website in October. There are three color options to choose from: blue, pink, and silver.

Underneath the colorful hood is a dual-core 1.0GHz processor with a quad-core GPU. It also features a 1024x768 resolution, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of built-in storage, microSDHC card slot with support for up 64GB of additional storage, micro USB port, mini HDMI output, 3.5mm audio jack, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, dual-facing camera, and a few other odds and ends. It ships with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

Tabeo e2

"From the day Tabeo arrived in Toys R Us stores nearly one year ago, we were incredibly pleased by the response from our customers who were excited to bring home a sophisticated, yet affordable, kid-safe tablet for the whole family to enjoy," said Richard Barry, Executive Vice President, Chief Merchandising Officer, Toys R Us, Inc. "We are committed to continually evolving our products, and over the past year have spent considerable time talking to parents and children to help us enhance their Tabeo experience. The result is Tabeo e2, which features a bigger screen, better resolution and faster performance, plus quality, kid-friendly content and flexible controls to keep kids safe online. We are delighted to deliver this new and improved tablet to our valued customers just in time for the upcoming holiday season."

The Tabeo e2 will come in a protective case that has been custom designed to shield against drops from low heights. It also comes with parental controls built into the device so parents can block apps, set time and date limits for specific app use, limit time online, and more.
