TomTom Announces TomTom XL LIVE
After the success of its LIVE Services on the premium TomTom
GO line of GPS devices, the company has announced plans to make LIVE Services available
for worldwide travelers through the new TomTom XL LIVE. This new GPS device
will bring LIVE services to the mass market with recommended retail price of
€219 for a regional version and a recommended retail price of €249 for a
European version (availability will differ per market). In addition, TomTom will
extend the use of LIVE Services to all ‘LIVE’ countries while keeping the
current monthly subscription fee at €9.95 per month.
The TomTom XL LIVE comes with TomTom High Definition Traffic,
TomTom Safety Alerts, TomTom Fuel Prices, and Online Local Search with Google. TomTom
High Definition Traffic provides detailed and up-to-date real-time traffic
information in Germany, the UK, France, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. TomTom
Safety Alerts gives users real-time safety camera reporting and sharing so
users can keep others informed about mobile safety cameras. With TomTom Fuel
Prices, you’ll always have up-to-date fuel price information to help you find
the cheapest gas station along your route or in your area. Finally, Local
Search with Google lets you navigate to search results at the press of a
button.
The TomTom XL LIVE also features IQ Routes. This technology will calculate the most efficient route to a destination considering the time of the day, day of the week, and other factors and data that have been derived from TomTom’s historic speed measurement database. By combining IQ Routes with HD Traffic, TomTom says users will get unbeatable route guidance.
As we’ve mentioned, the TomTom XL LIVE series will be available in two different models including a regional version and a European version that has maps of 42 European countries. Also included with the devices is a three or six month free trial of LIVE Services (depending on the country). In addition to the monthly, flat fee subscription of €9.95 for LIVE Services, customers can opt for a pre-paid subscription for six months (€59.95) or 12 months (€99.95).
The new TomTom XL LIVE is expected to be available in June. Current TomTom GO x40 LIVE customers will receive a free and automatic upgrade which will enable them to use their LIVE Services in the LIVE countries.
