Sony Xperia C5 Ultra And M5 Appease Selfie Lovers With 13MP Front Cameras

Sony on Monday unveiled a couple of new handsets that will appeal to this narcissistic generation of selfie takers. They include the Xperia C5 Ultra and Xperia M5, both of which sport high-quality 13-megapixel front-facing cameras, negating the need to flip the phone around to take a decent shot of yourself.

"We are pleased to present two new products that highlight Sony’s advances in camera technology," said Tony McNulty, Vice-President, Value Category Business Management at Sony Mobile Communications. "We understand that camera capabilities are important to smartphone users, so we ensured that Sony’s existing camera brilliance was once again surpassed in the new Xperia C5 Ultra and Xperia M5 without compromising on other features across design and performance."

Starting with the Xperia C5 Ultra, it also boasts a 13MP rear shooter with Sony's Exmor RS sensor. This allows for HDR photography and video, along with an easy to use Auto scene recognition mode that adjusts the camera's settings based on the environment and amount of light that's available.

Other features include a 6-inch Full HD IPS display with a "super-thin" bezel, 1.7GHz 64-bit octa-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, microSD card slot, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, 4G LTE radio, and Android 5.0 Lollipop all wrapped in an aluminum frame.

The Xperia M5 picks up where its predecessor left off and includes a 21.5MP rear camera with a 5x Clear Image Zoom. It also features a 5-inch Full HD display, 2GHz 64-bit octa-core processor, 3GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, microSD card slot, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, 4G LTE radio, and Android 5.0 Lollipop. It's also waterproof and dust tight with IP65 and IP68 certification.

Both handsets will be available in select territories around the middle of August. No word yet on price.
