Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Goes on Sale August 16 Starting at $499

Tomorrow's a big day. It's this editor's birthday (send gifts), it's the 35th anniversary of Elvis Presley's untimely demise (boo!), and it's when Samsung will start selling its Galaxy Note 10.1 device in U.S. shores (rock on!).

Our own Marco Chiappetta is currently in New York spending some hands on time with the Galaxy Note 10.1 so we can share our impressions of the device, but in the meantime, a rundown of the pertinent specs include:
  • 1.4GHz quad-core processor
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 16GB/32GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card slot)
  • 5MP rear-facing camera with auto-focus and LED flash
  • 1.9MP front-facing camera
  • 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi; USB 2.0; Bluetooth 4.0
  • 262 x 180 x 8.9 mm; 567g

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1

At launch, the Galaxy Note 10.1 will feature Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, though a Jelly Bean update is in the works, Samsung says. Also worth mentioning is the inclusion of an active digitizer layer to the touchscreen so that it can use a stylus. Samsung is pushing Stylus functionality pretty hard and is pre-loading the device with a number of related apps and features, including Adobe Photoshop Touch, normally a $9.99 purchase but included on the Galaxy Note 10.1 for free.
