Samsung Extends Android 7.0 Nougat Testing To Galaxy S6, S6 Edge And Note 5
Samsung earlier this month started inviting users to beta test Android 7.0 (Nougat) on their Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge devices, but those are not the only handsets it is focusing on. Earlier this week Samsung started cooking up Nougat for its Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge devices, and now it has begun developing the latest version of Android for its Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy Tab S2 as well.
That level of activity is always seen among Android device makers. The Android camp is notoriously fragmented due in part because of the multiple certification processes and all the testing that is involved, both by the device maker and wireless carriers that sometimes install their own custom software. Be that as it may, Samsung doesn't want to be viewed as the one holding things up.
This is also the sort of thing that can reestablish positive relations with consumers. Samsung suffered a bit of a black eye over its Galaxy Note 7 recall, an unfortunate situation that was made even worse by the fact that replacement devices exhibited the same overheating problem as the original handsets. Android 5.x Lollipop is still the most widely used version with a 34.1 percent share of the market, followed by Android 4.4 KitKat at 25.2 percent and Android 6.0 Marshmallow at 24 percent. Android 4.1.x through 4.3 Jelly Bean rounds out the top five versions of Android with a 13.7 percent share of the market.
