LG Vu 3 Waddles Into View Rocking a Wide 5.2-inch Display

LG's trying something a little new with its third generation of Vu devices. The newly announced Vu 3 features a big size 5.2-inch IPS display, but unlike other similarly sized smartphones (or phablets, if you prefer to call it that), this one has a funky shape. It's shorter and wider and than most phones in the 5-inch range, and is almost square.

It's a bit of a gamble as to whether potential buyers will want to stick a phone that wide into their pocket. Outside of its unique form factor, the Vu 3 boasts a 1280x960 display resolution (4:3 aspect ratio), Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, 13-megapixel rear-facing camera, and a few other odds and ends.

Users can turn the Vu 3 on simply by double tapping the screen. Once inside, you'll discover a redesigned user interface that's supposed to be easier to use and much more intuitive than previous models. In addition, there's a Guest Mode that blocks access to personal information, so you can hand the device over to a friend or your kids to play with and not have to worry about them accidentally pinging your boss.

No word yet on price or availability, though we imagine it will launch in South Korea at the outset, with a global rollout to follow if it proves successful.
