Jay Leno Drives 707 HP Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, Burns Up Tires, Changes Underwear

Jay Leno isn't just a talk show host, he's also a car enthusiast. In the latest episode of his Garage YouTube video series, Leno shows off Chrysler's ferocious Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, a beastly muscle car for the modern era with a 6.2-liter Hemi supercharged V8 engine kicking out 707 horsepower and 650 pounds of torque.

Specs of this awesome automobile are all over the web, including here at HotHardware, but just as interesting as the Hellcat's ability to go from zero to a quarter-mile in 10.8 seconds while hitting 126 miles per hour is touring the vehicle in high definition. You get that opportunity in Leno's video, followed by a test drive. And of course you get Leno's humor sprinkled throughout.

Hellcat Engine

"This is my 1970 Challenger 426 HEMI car," Leno says. "This was like the scariest car in the world when I was a kid. 425 horsepower, 0 to 60 mph in 6.4 seconds. Now, it's not so much. It's kind of like walking around with a rolled up sock in your pants. It looks good but it's not really that impressive."

Leno is joined by Dodge president and CEO Tim Kuniskis who explains details and background information about the Hellcat, such as that the Pirelli P Zero tires cost $300 each -- something to think about before doing a burnout, though if you can comfortably afford the Hellcat in the first place, a new set of tires probably won't put you in the poor house.

The 2015 Challenger SRT Hellcat will be available in the third quarter of this year starting at $60,000.
