#inevitable: Clickable Hashtags Coming to Facebook

Facebook is taking a page out of Twitter’s playbook and rolling out clickable hashtags. This feature addition to Facebook was most definitely inevitable, as it allows the social network to more effectively let people add context to posts about certain subjects. It doesn’t make sense for Facebook to not have hashtag capabilities.

“To date, there has not been a simple way to see the larger view of what's happening or what people are talking about,” wrote Greg Lindley on Facebook’s official blog. He added that this is a “first step” as the company rolls out more features “that surface some of the interesting discussions people are having about public events, people, and topics”.

Facebook hashtags

Users will be able to look for specific hashtags via the search bar, click hashtags (even those that originate from other services), and write posts from hashtag and feed results. Facebook further indicated that users will have some measure of privacy control over their hashtags.
