HP Launches Guinness World Record Fastest Inkjet Printer For The Desktop

Hewlett-Packard this week announced the releases of its new and exceptionally fast HP Officejet Pro X printer. How fast, you ask? It's the world's speediest printer as recognized by Guinness World Records! More specifically, it can spit out black and white prints (which HP calls "high quality professional documents") at up to 70 pages per minute (PPM) - yowza!

There's some serious bragging rights available if you're a printer enthusiast, though the Officejet Pro X is really intended for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) as a faster, cheaper alternative to laser printers. According to HP, the Officejet Pro X, along with two other Officejet Pro models -- the Officejet Pro 251dw and Officejet Pro 276dw Multifunction Printer (MFP) -- offer reliable printing for up to 50 percent lower cost per page than laser printers.

"SMB customers constantly look for ways to save money and do more with less," said Stephen Nigro, senior vice president, Inkjet and Printing Solutions and Graphics Solutions Business, Printing and Personal Systems Group, HP. "The new HP Officejet Pro X Series is an ideal solution that delivers professional printing at a faster rate and cheaper cost than laser printers, while generating significantly less waste."

HP PageWide Technology

The Officejet Pro X Series uses HP's PageWide technology, which is a next-generation inkjet platform and the secret sauce to fast prints. PageWide technology delivers four colors of pigment ink at one time onto a moving sheet of paper. The printhead stays stationary the whole time, allowing the Officejet Pro X to print documents quickly and quietly.

Let's talk price. Single-function Officejet Pro X models start at $449, and MFPs at $649. There's no mention of how much the 251dw and 276dw MPF will cost, though HP did amusingly point out that its very first Deskjet printer featured an average speed of 2ppm and ran $995.
