Google Hits The Catwalk With Nine Designer Watch Faces For Android Wear

One advantage smartwatches have over their dumb brethren is that when you grow tired of looking at the same timepiece, you can download new backgrounds to freshen things up. So it goes with Android Wear, the custom version of Android built specifically for smartwatches, which just received nine more watch faces.

Each of the new watch faces is from an "iconic fashion" designer or brand, including Ted Baker, Melissa Joy Manning, Vivienne Tam, Nicole Miller, Y-3, Mango, Zoe Jordan, Harajuku Kawaii, and ASICS. They all bring a unique flair to the Android Wear world, and best of all, they're free to download.

Android Wear Watch Faces

These new watch faces are part of an ongoing effort to add a bit of uptown appeal to Android Wear. It's not just about attracting the geek crowd with an interest in technology, but also those who want to make a fashion statement. Along those lines, Swiss watchmaker TAG Heuer and fashion brand Fossil released their first smartwatches powered by Android Wear last month.

As for the new watch faces, they're not just single coats of paint for your Android Wear smartwatch. Ted Baker's includes 10 designs to cycle through, while Vivienne Tam's features an Opera Girl who twirls, takes selfies, and more.

The designs are available now for Android Wear owners in the Play Store. What about iPhone owners running and Android Wear device? Hang tight, Google says the new watch faces will be available via the Android Wear app for iOS soon.
