Demon Creates Broadband Service Just For Gamers

It's about time! For years, gamers have been fighting for respect. Most people don't take them seriously, though the gaming business is obviously a huge one. Razer makes a living from selling accessories to hardcore gamers, and gaming PC sales don't seem to be hurting. So if high-end mice and GPUs sell so well, why wouldn't a high-end Internet service catering to gamers? That's what Demon hopes to do, offering a new broadband service that's supposedly tweaked to provide the best experience for gamers.

Bigfoot Networks has tried something similar with their custom Killer network cards, which reportedly level out jitter and make for smoother online gameplay sessions. But Demon's new broadband product is an entire access connection designed for low latency. The Internet service is also built to prioritize traffic within games in order to optimize the experience, with the "Demon Game Pro" offering speeds approaching 20Mb down and 1Mb up. The service also includes a free wireless router, static IP address and tweaked traffic prioritization. Consumers will also have access to a 24 hour in-house tech support team, and amazingly, the service won't cost a fortune. The starting price is just £21.99 per month for a 12 month contract, but of course you need to be in the UK to sign up.

Something tells us this won't be the first (or last) of its kind, and it's just a matter of time before something similar lands in other nations with power-hungry gamers.

ISP to provide best gaming experience for gaming enthusiasts

SOUTHEND, UK, 20th August 2010 – Demon, a brand of THUS Limited, today announced the launch of a broadband product, Demon Game Pro, aimed exclusively at the gaming community. The new, low latency service will prioritise gaming traffic and be ideal for serious gamers who want to achieve a competitive edge over other players.

Demon Game Pro will provide a better gaming experience over standard products because of the lower network latency, improved ping times and 24 x 7 UK based support. Demon Game Pro will offer speeds of up to 20Mb downstream and 1Mb upstream, a free wireless router, traffic prioritisation and free static IP address, crucial to maintaining consistent uptime during gaming as well as providing an option for users to host their own game servers.

The service will also be supported by a 24 hour, UK based in-house technical support team, many of whom are avid gamers themselves. Demon Game Pro will be available at a special launch offer price of just £21.99 per month for a 12 month contract.

Matt Cantwell, Head of Demon, commented: "We know how important a good broadband connection is to the gaming community, and we are excited to be launching this product which has been designed to meet the specific needs of gamers. At Demon we appreciate that a better connection allows better gaming, and are confident that gamers will see the benefits that this service offers them.

Alongside this new product announcement Demon has confirmed it will be a headline sponsor for Multiplay's iSeries gaming events for the next year, starting with Insomnia40 which runs from 27th – 30th August at Newbury Racecourse, UK.

Demon Broadband will be providing Multiplay with significant connectivity for its iSeries events, in the form a 1Gb circuit. This will enable high quality, fully interactive play for the gaming community in attendance and will officially make iSeries events the fastest LAN parties in the UK.

"We are delighted to be a headline sponsor at Multiplay's iSeries events," continued Cantwell. "Our long heritage in the broadband market combined with our technical expertise has led to gamers being key customers of Demon, and we're looking forward to re-engaging with them at these events."

Craig Fletcher, Managing Director of Multiplay, said: "At Insomnia40 we are looking to build on the success of i39 back in April, which saw over 100,000 gamers involved, either through their presence at the event or through their viewing of the online streaming. Our partnership with Demon is geared to provide the right technology foundation to give gamers at our iSeries events full and uninterrupted access to a range of interactive gaming."

With more than 6,000 visitors expected, and another 100,000 viewers online, Insomnia40 is recognised as the "Glastonbury of Gaming" since its inception in 1999. It will host a mix of large-scale LAN gaming and social events, industry exhibitions and professional tournaments. A highlight of the event is the World Cyber Games to be held onsite, the winners of which will travel to Los Angeles later in the year to represent the UK in the World's biggest gaming tournament.
