Dell Tempts Gamers With Curvy 34-Inch UltraSharp Monitor, Slated For Holiday Release

It's not easy to make a splash in tech news when you're going up against a major processor microarchitecture release like Haswell-E, though Dell managed to do just that by unveiling its uniquely redesigned Alienware Area 51 desktop yesterday. Interestingly, that wasn't the only thing Dell had up its sleeve. Mentioned almost as a side note in the press release is the unveiling of what Dell claims is the industry's first 34-inch curved monitor.

Dell's new UltraSharp 34-inch (U3415W) display boasts an ultra-wide 21:9 with a curved panel and WQHD 3440x1440 resolution. That's plenty of real-estate for gamers to see the on-screen action, and as for the curvaceous display, Dell says it gives gamers a competitive edge because there's less eye movement involved compared to a flat panel monitor, thus "enabling players to take advantage of their peripheral vision when the competition heats up."


Other details are fairly light, though Dell did say the monitor will sport an adjustable stand, HDMI 2.0, MHL, DisplayPort and mini DisplayPort connectivity, dual integrated 9W speakers, 60Hz performance, and a virtually borderless cockpit view when using more than one display in a multi-monitor configuration.

The Dell UltraSharp 34-inch U3415W will ship first to China in November before rolling out globally in December.
