Crucial Launches New Ballistix Tactical and Ballistix Elite Series RAM

With memory companies so focused on solid state drives these days, it's nice to see an old stalwart release new high-end memory kits. That's what we have with Crucial, who today announced two new product line additions to its popular Ballistix brand: Crucial Ballistix Tactical and Crucial Ballistix Elite.

The Ballistix Tactical series takes aim power users, gamers, and enthusiasts by combining high frequencies with low latency settings. These will feature a black PCB, integrated heatspreader with a revamped Ballistix logo, and ship in both DDR2 and DDR3 form.

Crucial's Ballistix Elite will only ship in DDR3 form and is designed for "extreme enthusiasts and gamers," Crucial says. Look for frequencies to ramp as high as 2133MHz.

"As the Memory Experts and a leading brand in the memory industry for more than 15 years, Crucial continues to demonstrate a commitment to the DRAM category with this new segmented Ballistix offering," said Jeremy Mortenson, senior product manager. "While others are focusing on other non-memory related products or dropping out of DRAM completely, Crucial remains focused and forward-thinking on its products."

Some might view that last bit as a dig at OCZ, another stalwart in the memory business, but one who ditched the DRAM market to concentrate on SSDs.

Crucial says it will begin shipping its new memory products in September 2011.
