Cheap? Alright! Tablet? Alright! Cheap tablet? Double alright! Cherrypal has just introduced what may actually be the cheapest Android 2.1 tablet to ship in the U.S., with the 7" CherryPad costing only $188. It's a bit smaller than the iPad, and runs a Samsung ARM11 CPU (800MHz) with Android 2.1; Android 2.2 is scheduled for an update in Q4 2010.

Unlike the iPad and many other more expensive tablets, this one relies on a resistive touch screen. It has an 800 x 480 resolution display, a built-in gravity sensor, 256MB of DDR2 RAM, 2GB of NAND Flash, a microSD reader and 802.11b/g Wi-Fi. It has a USB 2.0 port, 3.5mm headphone jack, built-in speakers/microphone and an optional external 3D modem. It weighs just 1.1lbs. and ships with a 3200mAh battery.

Despite the fact that we, and probably everyone, have compared it to the iPad, CherryPal CTO Max Seybold had this to say: "The CherryPad America does not compete against the Apple iPad.
