Asus Blitzes Mobile World Congress with PadFone and Transformer Pad Announcements

Asus lived up to its promise of unveiling its PadFone at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. The PadFone, if this is the first you're hearing of it, is a hybird phone-tablet device, or as Asus pitches it, a three-in-one device that can be used as a smartphone, tablet, or notebook when plopped into the company's separately sold PadFone Station or PadFone Station Dock.

The PadFone boasts a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED qHD display and Qualcomm's upcoming Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz with an Adreno 225 GPU to boot. It has 1GB of LPDDR2 RAM, 16GB/32GB/64GB of eMMC flash-based storage baked in, 8MP rear-facing camera, VGA front-facing camera, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, a microSD card slot, and various other goodies, all wrapped in Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).

When you drop the PadFone into the optional PadFone Station, it becomes a 10.1-inch tablet with 5 times the battery capacity, Asus claims. You'll also be able to purchase a separate keyboard, just like you can do with the Transformer Prime tablet.

And speaking of tablets, Asus also unveiled its upcoming Transformer Pad Infinity Series and Transformer Pad 300 Series, a pair of 10.1-inch slates with varying amounts of internal storage (16GB, 32GB, or 64GB for the Infinity Series and 16GB for the 300 Series). The Infinity sports a 1920x1200 Super IPS+ display with 600 nits brightness and Corning Gorilla Glass 2, a Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor and Tegra 3 '4-Plus-1' chip (4G/3G) or just a Tegra 3 processor (Wi-Fi), 1GB of memory, both rear- and front-facing cameras, and Android 4.0.

The Transformer Pad 300 Series also features an IPS screen, but with a 1280x800 resolution. It's built around Nvidia's Tegra 3 chip and also features 1GB of RAM, front- and rear-facing cameras, and Android 4.0.
