Apple’s 21.5-Inch iMac Reportedly Gaining 4K Display Next Month

Apple fans may find themselves overwhelmed with new product offerings this fall. Rumor has it Apple is getting ready to release a new smartphone (iPhone 6S) with Force Touch, new iPad models (including the iPad Pro for business users), possibly an Apple TV, and new software (iOS 9, OS X El Capitan, and watchOS 2), but that's not all. Now there's talk of a 21.5-inch iMac system with a 4K display.

Citing "reliable sources," the folks at 9to5Mac feel they have it on good authority that Apple's planning to announce a new version of its 21.5-inch iMac with a 4K Ultra HD (4096x2304) display by the end of October. The unveiling will take place alongside OS X El Capitan, with shipments expected in November of this year.

The bump in resolution will be a big upgrade over the currently available 21.5-inch iMac, which sports a Full HD 1080p (1920x1080) panel. It's also expected to feature faster processor options and improved color saturation.

Equipping the 21.5-inch iMac with a higher resolution panel will likely result in a higher price tag to boot. The same thing happened to the 27-inch iMac when Apple introduced a 5K display. What isn't yet clear is if Apple will continue to sell Full HD versions of the 21.5-inch iMac alongside the 4K models.
