Apple 'Move To iOS' App Hits Google Play, But You Won't See 'Move To Android' In App Store
Android fans are in a tizzy over a new app in Google Play that helps users move their content from an Android device to an iPhone or iPad. Apple built the app, which is called "Move to iOS," and made it available for free in Google Play where it's getting hammered by user reviews.
It has a 2-star rating out of more than 7,300 user reviews. Most of the ratings are split between 1-star (5,708) and 5 stars (1,374), with a spattering of 2-4 star ratings in between.
"Everything about iOS is designed to be easy. That includes switching to it. With just a few steps, you can migrate your content automatically and securely from your Android device with the Move to iOS app. No need to save your stuff elsewhere before switching from Android," Apple states.
The app purports to make it a cinch to transfer contacts, message history, camera photos and videos, web bookmarks, mail accounts, and calendars over to iOS. Whether or not it works as advertised is tough to tell because most of the reviews simply express anger at the app's existence and iOS in general.
"Seriously? You think people want to move to a restricted ecosystem that won't even allow you to try apps before you buy?? Google why did you allow them to put this app here? Oh that's right you promote innovation and don't charge for it or place restrictions on it. Actually, I am surprised Apple isn't charging $20 for the app," reads one of the reviews.
"So this is Apple's first Android app and they make one like this? Bet Android would never be able to publish their own 'Move to Android' app on Apple's App Store," reads another review.
Indeed, you're not likely to find a "Move to Android" or similar app in Apple's App Store because mentioning a competitor runs afoul of the developer guidelines. In section 3.1, Apple states that "apps or metadata that mentions the name of any other mobile platform will be rejected."
