Amazon Drops Kindle Fire Price $50, A New Kindle Fire HD Cometh?
When you follow the consumer electronics industry at large, a few key moves generally lead to a few other moves. Case in point: when a major, hot-selling product sees an unexpected price drop amidst a great sales season, there's a great chance that a new iteration of said product is en route. That's likely what's happening with the Amazon Kindle Fire HD.
The company just hacked a full $50 from the price of that slate, making the 7" version a palatable $160, and far more in a position to rival the Nexus 7. Of course, the existing Fire HD has been around a while, and Amazon has used September to launch new editions of its reading slate the past two years. If history continues to repeat itself, we could be on the cusp of seeing a revised version.
The existing Fire HD could absolutely stand to see an update, particularly given that the Nexus 7 just saw one weeks ago. Even 1080p YouTube videos can make the existing edition crawl, which can't be good for user comparisons.
On the non-HD side, reports are suggesting that the next-generation Kindle Fire will again ship in 7" and 8.9" sizes, with a 1.5GHz TI OMAP4 4470 processor, 1GB of RAM, and Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean). There will also be a resolution bump to 1,280 x 800 on the Kindle Fire refresh. So, if you're in the market for a new Amazon tablet, the price drop may be tempting. However, it's looking all the more probable that new editions are just around the bend.
