Alltel Picks Up RIM's BlackBerry Tour: $199 With 1-Year Contract

Verizon Wireless and Sprint have already announced plans to ship RIM's newest BlackBerry (that'd be the Tour), and now Alltel Wireless is jumping in to yell "me too!" Of course, it's sort of odd for Alltel to waste the marketing dollars here considering that VZW is already showing ads informing the general public that Alltel and Verizon are about to nail down a merge, but we digress.

The same CDMA-ready 3G Tour that can be purchased on America's biggest two CDMA operators is also making a beeline for Alltel shelves (while they're still blue, anyway). As with the other carriers, Alltel's Tour also features a 2.44" display, 3.2MP camera, video recording, a PowerPoint reader, multimedia player and a microSD/SDHC card slot.

It also boasts a full QWERTY keyboard, 3.5mm headphone jack, 256MB of flash memory and support for the BlackBerry App World. The BlackBerry Tour 9630 smartphone is available for $199.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate and with a 1-year service contract, but if you like the idea of getting a phone with such a short contract, you best act soon. Once Alltel becomes a fully owned part of Verizon Wireless, we'd bet this option vanishes completely.
