Toys R Us Tabeo Tablet Means You Can Have Your iPad Back

Are the kids hogging your iPad so they can play Angry Birds? Don’t assert your parental authority and take the tablet back: by the kids their own. Toys R Us announced its own tablet, the Tabeo, which has the apps that your kids love, but also includes some child-safety features. And, should the Tabeo get dropped, kicked, or both, it will only set you back $149.99. That’s not chump change, we know, but it’s not iPad money, either.

The Tabeo is a real tablet, with real specs. The device has a 7-inch display at 800 x 480 pixels and runs Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) on a 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 processor. It has 1GB of system memory and offers 4GB of built-in storage capacity, which you can increase via the microSDHC slot by as much as 4GB. It also supports WiFi and has a front camera, speakers, a microphone, a mini-HDMI port, and a USB port (for connecting it to your PC). Toys R Us estimates 10 hours of battery life during normal use, which it defines as “Internet navigation.

One thing that is likely to get the attention of parents is that the Tabeo has tons of installed apps and games. Angry Birds is there, as is Cut the Rope. If you’d like your little tykes to be focusing on education, the Tabeo is ready for that, too, with apps for learning letters, math, and science. Additional apps are designed to put their creativity to work.

You know this tablet will take its share of bumps, and the Tabeo is actually designed to withstand ordinary falls. A green bumper softens the blow. Toys R Us knows kids. You can pick one up for yours on October 21.
