Starbucks Begins Offering Wireless Powermat Charging Stations Nation-Wide
Don't let your dying mobile device keep you from stopping into Starbucks and ordering that hazelnut macchiato you've been craving. Starbucks and Duracell Powermat have partnered up to roll out wireless phone chargers in Starbucks and Teavana locations across the U.S., so you can give your smartphone a jolt of juice while guzzling your daily dose of caffeine.
According to USA Today, the roll out will be begin in locations throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. From there, Starbucks and Duracell Powermat will push to install more than 100,000 built-in table charges in each of the approximately 7,500 Starbucks owned stores in the U.S.
"This move by Starbucks cuts the final cord of our lives -- the power cord," says Daniel Schreiber, president of Powermat Technologies. "It's changing the way humanity interacts with power."
Starbucks is also positioning itself as the go-to place for techies. The company's beverages are already a major attraction, but with built-in charging pads, it's yet another reason to stop in for a spell -- recharge yourself and your phone. It's a savvy move, though not surprising. If you recall, Starbucks was one of the first national chains to implement Wi-Fi in its stores over a decade ago.
Using the Duracell Powermat requires a special AccessCase or Ring to connect your phone with a wireless charging. The AccessCase runs about $30, while the special Ring will be available at select locations.
