Samsung Unveils Galaxy S4 Active Smartphone for Adventure Seekers

If you're more of the type who likes to hike on rugged terrain and scale mountainsides on your days off from work, then Samsung has a phone for it. It's the Galaxy S4 Active, which is essentially the same as the company's popular Galaxy S4 but with a tougher construction that's better suited for crossing rivers and things of that nature.

"The Galaxy S4 Active is the newest addition to the Galaxy series and is purposefully designed for active users who love the outdoors," said JK Shin, CEO and President of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics. "Samsung has taken the innovative features of the Galaxy S4 and added breakthrough protective design elements to create a device that thrives in an active environment and is built for a lifestyle of travel and exploration."

Samsung says its Active device is qualified to protect from dust and water (IP67). It has a fully sealed design that rejects dust particles and protects against water damage for up to 30 minutes in water depths of one meter, so it's not the end of the world if you're on the golf course and drop the phone in the drink. Samsung says you can even shoot underwater photos in your pool.

As to the hardware inside, it features a familiar spec sheet with a 1.9GHz quad-core processor, 5-inch Full HD touchscreen (443 ppi), 8MP rear-facing camera, 2MP front-facing camera, 2600mAh battery, and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
