Samsung Rolls Out Series 5 Laptops with Ivy Bridge Inside
System builders are plenty eager to cross Intel's Ivy Bridge platform en route to more performance on the other side, and that includes Samsung, which today unveiled a pair of new Series 5 notebooks sporting the Santa Clara chip maker's latest and greatest architecture. They include the 15.6-inch Series 5 and 14-inch Series 5 500.
"Our latest Series 5 notebooks offer a premium computing experience, thanks to Samsung’s advanced engineering and Intel’s new processors, as well as enviable entertainment features including JBL audio speakers to provide a home theater experience in a mobile PC, whether you’re using it in your office, home or at a hotel," said Todd Bouman, vice president of marketing at Samsung Enterprise Business Division. "The power and speed of Intel’s latest processors have enabled us to create even faster, more efficient laptops, and we’re excited to have begun integrating them into these new models and several of our existing designs as well."
Starting with the larger of the two models, the 15.6-inch Series 5 comes standard with an Intel Core i7 3610QM processor, 8GB of DDR3 memory, 750GB hard drive, NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M graphics, 1.3MP webcam, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, and other odds and ends wrapped in Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. The system weighs 5.5 pounds, runs for 6 or more hours on a single charge, and costs $900 (MSRP).
As for the 14-inch Series 5 500, Samsung equipped it with a Core i5 3210M processor and 500GB hard drive. The rest of the hardware remain the same, and it also boasts the same display resolution (1366x768). MSRP is $800.
