Rumored Google/ASUS Nexus 7 Tablet Turns up in Rightware Benchmark Data
There has been wide speculation that Google and ASUS have teamed up on a Kindle Fire-killing tablet that would offer potentially more features and functionality than the Fire yet match its price point. More details have emerged about the alleged tablet, and they certainly indicate that it’s a real thing.
Rightware makes benchmarking software for mobile devices, and a result for “Google Asus Nexus 7” turned up in the company’s benchmark database. Apparently, someone with a prototype device is testing it, and for the record, the device hit an average score of 18 in the Basemark ES 2.0 Taiji benchmark.
What’s most interesting about the database entry is that it lists some juicy details about the tablet. The Google Nexus 7 (sure, let’s call it that for now) sports an NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor (1.3GHz) with NVIDIA ULP GeForce graphics and a 1280x768 resolution. Based on previous indications as well as the number 7 in the device’s name, it’s reasonable to assume that this is indeed a 7-inch device.
The Android Police dug up some additional data from Rightware that indicates that it’s running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean (a precursor to Android 5, which should be announced in the near future) and a device codename (Grouper).
