Pentax Debuts Waterproof Optio WS80; Adds P80 & E80 Cameras

Pentax’s latest camera is ready to jump in the pool with you. The new Optio WS80 is a waterproof and dustproof model that features a 10 megapixel sensor and a 5x internal optical zoom lens. This palm-sized camera measures less than an inch thick. You’ll also find a 2.7 inch LCD with 230,000 dot resolution on the Optio WS80.

In addition to capturing still photos at depths up to five feet, the Optio WS80 can also record high resolution, HD video up to 720p at a full 30 frames per second. Other features include Fast Face Detection that can see up to 32 faces in as little as 0.03 of a second, Smile Capture and Blink Detection, PENTAX Shake Reduction technology, and an ISO sensitivity up to ISO 6400. The Optio WS80 will come in his-and-her’s designs (black with orange accents or white with purple accents) in September for approximately $250.



Pentax’s two other additions to its camera line include the new PENTAX Optio P80 and the PENTAX Optio E80. As the latest model in the popular Optio P series, the Optio P80 features a slim, lightweight body with a 12.1 megapixel sensor and a 4x wide angle optical zoom lens with an equivalent focal length of 27.5 - 110mm. You’ll also find a 2.7 inch LCD with 230,000 dot resolution, PENTAX Shake Reduction technology, Smile Capture, Blink Detection, and an Auto Picture mode on this camera. The Face Detection AF & AE function on the Optio P80 has been improved to recognize faces from an angle. In addition to still images, the Optio P80 can capture widescreen HD video up to 720p at a full 30 frames per second. The Optio P80 will come in Black, Pearl, and Mint in September for approximately $200.



The Optio E80 targets first-time digital camera users with its easy to press, large control buttons and an Auto Picture mode that can select the most appropriate shooting mode for a given setting. Optio E80 features include a 10 megapixel sensor, 2.7 inch LCD, 3x wide angle optical zoom lens, ISO sensitivity up to ISO 6400, Face Detection, and easy to read camera menus. The Optio E80 is capable of capturing widescreen HD video at 720p at 15 frames per second with sound. The Optio E80 uses AA-size batteries for power. Look for the Optio E80 in September in Silver or Black for approximately $130.
