Ocho Launches Its 8 Second Vine Video Networking Competitor Backed By $1.65 Million And Shark Mark Cuban

Apparently what the mobile world needs is another video sharing application similar to Vine and Instagram and all the others that allow you to shoot short clips to share with friends and family. Or maybe it doesn't. Either way, we'll soon find out now that Ocho has graduated out of beta status. What is Ocho? At present, it's an iOS app that lets you create, edit, and share eight-second videos.

Ocho is notable in part because it's backed by Mark Cuban, the billionaire owner of the Dallas Mavericks and star of Shark Tank, a reality TV show in which budding entrepreneurs and inventors pitch their ideas in hopes of landing an investment from a one (or more) of four wealthy and prominent investors. Cuban others have reportedly forked over a combined $1.65 million in funding to Ocho's founders, Jourdan Urbach and Jonathan Swerdlin.

The duo behind the startup are videographers, which prompted them to build what they consider a better app for sharing videos. One of their goals is to "replicate the same degree of respect that Instagram creates for photos," and the way they're approaching it is by giving users more control over the experience.

Ocho allows users to adjust the volume in videos, add voice overs, edit existing photos in your iPhone's camera roll, trim or timelapse videos, add filters, and more, some of which are features its competitors allow. Perhaps one of the neatest things is that all videos end up in 16:9 widescreen, though you can record in portrait or landscape mode.

If you want to check it out for yourself, you can download it for free from Apple's App Store.
