Happy Holidays! Microsoft Announces Xbox Music No Longer Free Starting December 1
It’s going to be a sad holiday for Xbox Music users. According to Xbox Support, users will no longer be able to stream music for free effective December 1.
No reason was provided as to why Microsoft will no longer offer the ad-supported streaming service for free. According to the Xbox Support FAQ it states, “We are focusing Xbox Music to deliver the ultimate music purchase and subscription service experience for our customers. With Xbox Music Pass, you have access to millions of songs on your PC, tablet, Xbox, phone, and the web. Download music for offline listening and create playlists that automatically sync across all your devices.”
Xbox Music users who wish to continue using the service after December 1 will have to pay for an Xbox Music Pass which will cost $9.99 per month. Music already purchased through Xbox Music will still be available on the consumer’s PC, tablet, and phone. However, any playlists or collections a user has created using the free streaming feature will be unable to listen to their songs unless they purchase the music or have an Xbox Music Pass.
So be sure to listen to all of the music for free that you can before December 1 arrives.
