MSI's Slider Tablet Solves Problem of Typing on Craptastic Virtual Keyboards
Plain and simple, typing on a tablet, be it an iPad device or any number of Android slates, isn't much fun. Virtual keyboards just don't lend themselves to productivity chores the way a physical plank does, which could end up being a big selling point in the hybrid tablet/notebook category once Windows 8 rolls into view. MSI certainly thinks so, hence why it designed the Slider S20 Ultrabook.
As far as we know, the Slider S20 is the first Ultrabook model that pulls double-duty as a tablet device. It's powered by Intel's Chief River CULV platform, supports an array of peripherals and I/O ports (USB 3.0, Bluetooth 4.0, HDMI), and runs Windows 8.
As for the display, MSI claims ten points of multi-touch for those times when you feel like getting touchy-feely with the OS. When it's time to hammer out a TPS report, however, just slide the display back to reveal a physical keyboard and punch out characters like you would on a traditional laptop.
MSI is keeping mum on launch details, though chatter around the Web suggests the Slider S20 will range in price from around $1,000 to over $1,000, depending on configuration. Look for this one to ship later this year once Windows 8 debuts, obviously.
