Lenovo Ships ThinkPad Edge 14 And 15 Notebooks To Style-Minded Business Users

Earlier in the year, we had the opportunity to review Lenovo's ThinkPad Edge 13, a 13" ultraportable that was an affordable version of the classic ThinkPad that has been around for so many years in the business world. We didn't find that machine perfect for everyone, but there's a good chance that the 14" and 15" versions of the same rig might just step things up to a point where we'd consider recommending an Edge over a standard ThinkPad.

Both the ThinkPad Edge 14 and 15 boast the company's new layout and design, which is an edgier look that's more modern than ThinkPad notebooks of the past. Both have backlit keyboards, and they start at just $599. That's an unheard-of price for a ThinkPad of any kind (except ancient ones), and while the lower-priced models ship with Celeron processors, Core i3 and Core i5 chips are available if you wish to upgrade. You'll also get an HD LED display, optional Blu-ray drive, VoIP features, VGA/HDMI outputs, a 7-in-1 card reader, the ability to add Bluetooth and a spill-resistant keyboard that will certainly pay dividens for the more clumsy among us.

In order to keep business users connected, Lenovo is offering optional Wi-Fi, 3G and 4G options built right in, and unlike any ThinkPad before, these are available in heatwave red or midnight black. ThinkVantage Technologies (TVT) productivity tools are also pre-installed, helping business users get the most of their new machine right from the start. These should become available for purchase later this week.
