Isoscope Maps Powered By Nokia HERE Knows How Long It Will Take You To Get Around In Traffic

No matter how advanced tools like Google Maps have gotten, this is the question we all still have whenever we map a route: How long will it take me to get there--no, really? Maps always give you an estimate, and they try to take into account factors such as traffic, but they’re not ideal. Further, if you want to see multiple options for getting around a crowded city and want to compare routes, it’s slow and arduous to do so.

Enter Isoscope, a new mapping that can tell you how long it will take you to get anywhere in a city; at any time of day; on any day of the week; given 2, 4, 6, 8, or 10 minutes.

“We wanted our project to shed light on situations when urban mobility is compromised, when the pulse of the city falters, such as during traffic jams,” Sebastian Kaim, one of Isoscope’s creators, told Fast Company. Kaim developed the tool, which was built using Nokia’s HERE platform, with Flavio Gortana and Martin von Lupin at the University of Applied Sciences in Potsdam.

‘We want to make the daily traffic experience visually accessible," added von Lupin. "People start realizing what barriers and liberties they have in their city, and what limitations come along with a specific day or daytime."

You can check out Isoscope for yourself here; perhaps it will help you in your commute or timing your lunch break, whether that’s spotting congestion points or determining that heading out on foot or via bike is a better option.
