Have $16,000 to Burn? Canon's EOS C300 Cinema Camera Goes Up for Pre-order

If you've always wanted to spend a small fortune on a professional camera designed specifically for digital cinematography, today just happens to be your lucky day. Canon's new EOS C300 Cinema is available for pre-order for a cool $15,999 with free shipping, so technically this is a sub-$16,000 camera, in case that helps you pitch it to your significant other.

Since we're getting technical, we should start with the Super 35mm-equivalent 16:9 large CMOS sensor. Canon says it was modeled on the Super 35mm 3-per motion picture standard and boasts an active image size of 24.6mm x 13.8mm. The camera records 4:2:2 50Mb/s MPEG-2 video to two CF cards at 1080p. It also has a 4-inch, 1.23MP rotating LCD screen.

The camera body itself is modular with several parts that are able to be attached or removed. It weighs 1,430g and measures 133mm x 171mm x 179mm, and is supposedly rough and tumble with a dust and splash proof design, along with a cooling system for extended shoots.

It's priced at just shy of $16,000 for the body with either EF or PL lens mounts and will ship sometime after January 30, 2012.
